Mitsubishi’s Green Initiatives: A Mitsubishi Dealership Tells All

A Vision for 2050, Targets for 2030

Mitsubishi has been aggressively making changes today to face a world where clean water and a green ecosystem are more important than ever. The Environmental Vision 2050 plan isn’t just the lofty target of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050. It includes solid plans and hard targets that act as milestones along the way. Specifically, Mitsubishi Motors has set some definitive targets for 2030 to help make the world a better, greener place.

Slash CO2 Emissions

With the planet heating up, Mitsubishi set the ambitious goal of cutting CO2 emissions from new vehicles by 40% or more compared to their 2010 output. So far, they’ve managed a sharp 17% reduction from their lineup when compared to that benchmark, and progress continues.

But CO2 from their lineup isn’t the only place Mitsubishi Motors is looking to cut emissions. They’re also looking to slash CO2 production from their business activities by 50% versus FY2018. They’re already well on their way, with 2023’s CO2 production falling by 34% versus the 2018 benchmark.

Sell More Electric Vehicles

Mitsubishi is working hard to drive the electric revolution. The first electric Mitsubishis hit the market in 2019, making for 7% of the wholesale volume of units sold in that fiscal year. By 2030, the goal is to electrify a full 50% of auto sales. So how are they doing? The FY2023 numbers show a jump to 15%, more than double where sales started and a 3% jump over 2022.

Supply Chain Initiatives

Mitsubishi isn’t just thinking about their direct production of CO2. They’re also looking to make changes further up the supply chain. They’re promoting CO2 reduction activities in cooperation with logistics companies and major suppliers in order to make the entire supply chain more efficient.

Additional Initiatives

Mitsubishi isn’t stopping with model redesigns. They’re reevaluating sustainability across the product lineup. One target for 2030 is to reuse batteries in electrified vehicles, minimizing resource waste and maximizing efficiency. They’re also rapidly expanding their use of non-fossil-based plastics to reduce reliance on petrochemicals.

They’re even working to adopt a zero direct landfill waste process, with the aggressive target to have less than 0.5% of their resources going to landfills by 2030.

Mitsubishi Motors is working hard to make a world that is greener and more sustainable than ever. Join the revolution. Test drive a Mitsubishi today at Music City Mitsubishi in Nashville, TN.
